The broadcast flag decision is expected next week. Will it pass?

"It will simply prevent consumers from illegal piracy, from mass distribution over the Internet, which is the problem with the music file sharing," Kenneth Ferree, head of the FCC's media bureau, said".

Is there really any doubt left? The FCC has demonstrated over and over how little it really understands the competitive dynamics of network industries and platform markets - this quote is just the latest illustration.

What's more, the RIAA has played a brilliant game of chicken with it's own consumers. That might kill it's business, but hey, at least it will be left with it's business model - as obsolete as that may be.
