Addendum to my Google post below. I've heard a lot talk about how Google's advantage is precarious, because it's not a true network good, and can be displaced by technologically superior competitors. That's simply wrong. Google
has created a situation of increasing returns - but not thru network effects.
It's done so by reaping good old economies of scale - and unlike industrial economies of scale, which end up being diseconomies at a certain point, Google keeps revising it's technology to maximise economies of scale and sustain increasing returns. Now
that's pretty cool.
