Here's a really bad article about the 'underground hacking scene', written mainly from the point of view of the industry. It's a great illustration of strategic fit (or lack thereof): the disconnect between the organism and the environment.

In this case, the industry can only see what it wants to see (because inertia, etc are limiting it's perception) - so it's becoming more and more maladapted to a landscape that's shifting faster and faster.
