Why are high-end electronics so much more expensive in the UK? It's not just because of VAT and other tariffs.

My guess is because of massive collusion by retailers and/or distributors. If any US big-box retailer is listening, you could absolutely destroy this fragmented market, and make a killing. Oh, wait - you're not allowed in. Make that collusion reinforced by regulation.

Even DVD players (now totally commoditized in the US, ~$30) will run you minimum 60 pounds. Ouch!!
