Brad DeLong had a post somewhere (not on his blog) essentially saying that the Big Question (tm) in econ these days is where the massive productivity gains are coming from. He's absolutely right: economists really do want to know.

The rest of us have a fairly good idea. Facetiousness to be taken lightly, I enjoy Brad's blog more than a lot. The point is really that economists look at sociological and managerial variables looong after they run out of, well, economic variables.
