Interesting post about a restaurant with a pay-what-you-like pricing model. The economics of trust? Not really - unless social capital is a driver of this model. Nevertheless, interesting possibilities for the Net...

I believe this idea may have been tried numerous times in history. The last instance that I can think of were the Gentlemen's clubs that became popular in 19th century Britain and, in many cases, are still in existence in London around St James's and Pall Mall. As far as I know all of them have abandoned the practice, probably as a result of the decline in social capital of the members and the inherent feelings of collective responsibility felt towards the clubs....
