RSS Ate Itself

Burnham on metafeeds. Very interesting stuff.

He thinks tags are a solution to feed overload - I think tags are the inverse - a way to sort the wheat from the chaff outside the feed. Put another way, tags are a substitute for feeds, not a complement. Do you use tags instead of reading whatever feeds you're subbed to? I don't.

He also thinks tags lack context and consistency - I think this is exactly their power. To pull things together from across context (del.icio.us, MeFi, Flickr), and to be less than coherent (which is where things get interesting when we're talking about self-organizing phenomena).
