The Rise of the Edge
An excellent article about Korea's gaming culture - highly recommended.
Although tastes may be different there and in different places around the world - FPS here, RPG in Japan (vs more of an RTS lean in Korea) - the dynamics are unmistakable: connecting gamers is going to amplify the shift of value outside the boundaries of the firm.
