Communitied Out, Pt 37771
So Tim O'Reilly just kicked off the Web 2.0 conference with a talk about we're not solving big problems. Wait - that sounds just like what we've been discussing repeatedly this year.
Paul Graham just wrote an essay about why good vs evil is a principle to live by for companies. Wait - that sounds like something we've been discussing for the last four years.
Lol. Nice to see you guys finally joining the discussion. An acknowledgement might be nice (if, of course, one is due).

Hey, always enjoy your posts. But I believe that you shouldn't be too upset because we're not entirely sure if those people you mentioned really got the idea from your blog only - Just because you thought about the issue doesn't mean they didn't think of the same thing, right? Besides, they may not have read your blog but still could have picked up the thought from someone around them, who read your articles but didn't say so.

Storm their doors and demand to be heard/included. Or keep writing thought provoking pieces starting great conversations and they'll eventually have no choice but to include you. In short, keep doing what you're doing.

if you really want to be excluded from the conversation, try mentioning the truth about 9/11. nothing gets you kicked out of the club of cool kids faster than mentioning important truths. :)

Maybe they're getting more attention because you are saying "look at me", while they are saying "look at this idea".

the point of the post was that i already said "look at this idea" long ago.
if you really think bubblegen is some kind of vehicle for promoting me vs discussing ideas, i'd appreciate it you just stopped reading.

Don't feel bad Umair. People are just now getting the idea that Apple's promise of products that just work and produce joy is...how do you say...real. Only took 30 years.

Don't worry too much about inclusion or attribution etc. Just focus on insights and being ahead of the curve. Things will follow. There are no gate keepers that can stop you.
The only suggestion I will make is that sometime you come across as not very transparent in your comments (you make vague remarks about some companies but don't mention their names). Also you make bold statements (which most of the time sound true to me) but you don't back it up with analysis (still waiting for your analysis of etsy).
Just remember you do have a community, you don't need others to let you in.
As far as "solving problems" - I think as the economy begins to sink people are going to be looking for alternate ways to do pretty much everything - and they will find creative uses for the net.
No matter how you cut it the Web is literally a half-pie graph of nothing but porn. I really doubt this will change anytime soon.
Last thing, there's a saying that " just because you helped start a revolution doesn't mean your going to benefit from it"...876
The way I feel reading most discussion around Web 2.0 is it's just an umbrella of encapsulated privilege looking for excuses to have wallow in it's narcissism , so if somebody wants to create the nth million youtube or hot-or-not rip-off who cares - if they seriously think it "is something" or that they can make money from it then let them.
People always find alternative creative uses for technology outside the conventions...it just may not be apparent if your focus is silicon valley or reading techcrunch or whatever.
BTW:
Those gentlemen didn't steal your words or ideas - they downloaded and remixed them to share with their friends.

the thing about great ideas is that they echo in many a minds..
i know you were there long before they realized where there is. They are heavily promoted by their PR, a "core" strategy that is becoming decadent. You are the edge guru, and here is more respect from the edge: thanks for starting the echo!
